A 'much loved' teenager who was stabbed to death during a knife attack in Birmingham has today been pictured.

Jack Barry, 19, was pronounced dead at the scene after being stabbed on the street in Hamstead, Great Barr, at around 9.45pm on Sunday.

An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to hospital to be treated for an injury, where he today remains.

The suspect will be questioned when medically fit, a West Midlands Police spokesman confirmed.

In a short statement, Mr Barry's family said: 'Jack was a much loved son and grandson.'

A post-mortem confirmed the victim died as a result of a stab wound.

Detective Inspector Hannah Whitehouse added: 'Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Jack at this deeply distressing time.

'We're grateful for the support we've received so far as we seek to establish the full circumstances of what happened on Sunday evening.

'But we still believe there are people out there who have information which can assist our investigation and I'd urge them to contact us.'

Passersby reported hearing 'screaming and shouting' on Sunday, March 7 before more than ten police cars and ambulances rushed to the scene.

Catherine Boyle, 37, a mother-of-one, said: 'I just saw all the emergency services arrive.

'There was about a dozen police cars and ambulances, it was like something from a movie. The street was lit up with blue lights.

'They cordoned off the area very quickly. There was a lot of screaming and shouting going on.

'I've lived here for 20 years and nothing like this has ever happened here. You get a few gangs of kids about but this is usually a quiet area.

'It's desperately sad if somebody has died.'

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said previously: 'West Midlands Ambulance Service was called at 9:45pm on Sunday to reports of a stabbing in West Road, Great Barr.

'Four ambulances and three paramedic officers attended the scene.

'When crews arrived, they found a man in a critical condition.

'Staff worked quickly to carry out advanced trauma care to the patient, but sadly despite the best efforts, nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

'A second patient, also a man, was treated for serious injuries at the scene before being conveyed to hospital on blue lights and sirens for further treatment.'
