A video showing the spectacular new floodlit walking trail drawing thousands of tourists to the Blue Mountains is sweeping social media, as Australians look for domestic distraction while international borders remain closed.

The Katoomba Falls Reserve Night-lit Walk in the NSW Blue Mountains west of Sydney is illuminated by 403 twinkling LED lights which illuminate the stunning natural wonders of one of Australia's most scenic destinations.

The clip, uploaded to TikTok by travel blogger 'Views with Dav', reveals the magical enchantment of the 1.3 kilometre walk, which is suitable for all ages and abilities.

'Highly recommend this. Easy walk and very safe! Chasing waterfalls after dark,' he wrote in the caption.

Thirteen spotlights draw walkers' attention to natural attractions such as Orphan's Rock, Witches Leap and Katoomba Falls, while a further 390 smaller LED lights sparkle on the footpath which opened in late February.

From certan viewing points, the world-famous Three Sisters can also be seen bathed in a yellow glow.

The walkway, which is the brainchild of the Blue Mountains Council and took six years to complete, was due to open in late 2019 before the raging bushfires of that summer suspended construction.

The council went to great lengths to highlight the region's natural features at night without causing unnecessary disruption to wildlife or local residents.

The walk finally connects previously floodlit pathways along the Blue Mountains hiking belt including Katoomba Falls Kiosk car park around Reid's Plateau and all the way down to the Duke and Duchess lookout.

The video, which has been viewed 255,300 times since it was uploaded on Tuesday, has sparked delighted responses.

'I must do that! I've never been at night,' one woman replied, while a second wrote: 'Oh my god this looks incredible.'

A third said it wouldn't be long before the experience became the go-to places for Sydney men to propose to their girlfriends.

Many who have already tried the walk described it as 'one of the best experiences' they've ever had.

'Best night ever. I recommend this experience to all the adventurous people out there,' one woman posted.

Another added: 'Remember to look up, the stars were amazing.'
