Last Easter's travel plans may have been cancelled, but thankfully this year looks a little different, now that lockdowns have lifted and the option for interstate travel has returned.

There's always DIY Easter craft and cooking fun to be had at home with the kids, but there has also never been a better opportunity to make the most of Easter in Australia.

Whether you're up for a staycation or a mini-break interstate, these family friendly destinations and activities are sure to be easy, fun-filled outings for you and the little ones.

Book an Easter holiday at Paradise Resort

A seaside escape to the newly renovated Paradise Resort on the Gold Coast promises a treat for the whole family. This resort has everything covered for a fuss-free Easter break - and some great accolades behind its offering, as the recent winner of the Best Family Hotel/Resort award from Out & About With Kids.

From toddlers to teens, keep the kids entertained at its dedicated Kids Club, a mini theme-park packed with a host of engaging activities from disco nights to arts and crafts, with specially designed, fully supervised events to suit all ages from 0-12.

They'll be spoiled for choice with the water park and an indoor ice rink and live music and dance performances to watch. Meanwhile, parents can relax and enjoy a yoga class, trivia nights or cocktail and wine tastings - or take a short trip to the hinterland wineries, Bryon Bay or Brisbane.

Head to the Sydney Royal Easter Show

The Sydney Royal Easter Show is back in a COVIDSafe format this year, but will still feature all of the favourite attractions, from carnival rides to the rodeo. The show is, after all, about celebrating Australian heritage and agriculture and provides a massive range of activities for the family - and more than enough to occupy most of the Easter long weekend. The pony rides are a favourite pastime, as well as cooking workshops for kids - plus the show bags packed full of endlessly entertaining treats post-show.

Take in Moja Moja Life: Misaki Kawai for Kids

As part of the National Gallery of Victoria's Triennial, there's a special attraction that young visitors will adore. Japanese artist Misaki Kawai's colourful, furry sculptures of dogs offer a sensory, interactive and engaging display this is sure to spark joy and fun.

It's the first time Kawai's works have appeared in Australia, and with an accompanying puppet show, a photo booth and digitally-interactive pieces, you can easily while away an entire afternoon.

Marvel at Featherdale's wildlife

The Easter weekend is the perfect opportunity to get out into the great Australian outdoors and meet some of our most adorable wildlife, and Featherdale is a firm favourite for Sydneysiders and visitors alike.

More than 2,000 Australian native animals live here, from wombats to kangaroos and endangered species - and the largest collection of koalas in New South Wales - a trip to Featherdale offers the chance to see some of our most gorgeous critters up close.

If there's energy leftover, you can also pair your visit with a trip to the waterslides, rides and attractions at the nearby Raging Waters, for an action-packed long weekend.

Enjoy the Falls Creek Easter Festival

The Victorian Alps are particularly family friendly during the Easter weekend, and the Falls Creek Easter Festival is well worth the trip. While enjoying the beautiful natural surroundings of the mountain, there are guided nature and historical walks and plenty of kid's activities, too, such as Easter egg hunts and mountain bike shuttles. There's also a winter snow gear sale, so you can get your kit sorted before the season begins.
