Accused child killer Jorge Barahona suffered minor injuries when he was attacked by five other inmates inside a Florida jail, Miami-Dade police said.

According to NBC 6 South Florida, Barahona, 53, suffered bruises on his face, a nosebleed and a small cut on his nose in the March 1 attack inside the Miami-Dade County jail. Police said the attack was not captured on video because the inmates tampered with the security cameras.

The inmates attacked Barahona while he was sleeping because "of the nature of his pending charges," according to a police report.

Barahona is accused of killing his disabled, adopted 10-year-old daughter Nubia in February 2011. He allegedly attempted to dispose of her body with chemicals but she was discovered in a garbage bag the back of his truck in Palm Beach County.

His wife, Carmen Barahona, 69, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse in 2020 and is expected to testify against Jorge Barahona. The pair also abused Nubia's brother Victor, who eventually received a $5 million settlement from the state after the siblings were placed in foster care with the Barahonas and later adopted by them.

He faces the death penalty if convicted, but his trial, which was postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic, has yet to be rescheduled.

Armando Verdecia, 21, Hakeem Drane, 24, Klauss Moise, 20, Devaun Spaulding, 27 and Oscar Martinez, 29, were all charged with battery for allegedly attacking Barahona.
