The daughter of billionaire mining magnate Andrew 'Twiggy' Forest, has bought a $1.8million penthouse with sweeping views of the Sydney skyline.

Sophia Forrest, purchased the two-storey penthouse atop the prized Warehouse 5 complex in the inner-city suburb of Waterloo this week.

The 26-year-old actress secured the property with uninterrupted north-west views of the cityscape in an off-market purchase - without needing to finance.

The 173sqm apartment has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a two-car garage and multiple terraces with 270 degree views of the city.

The luxurious property also features an open plan living space with soaring 6m ceilings and a designer kitchen with an island bench.

The complex backs onto the popular Danks Street cafe and gallery strip and just minutes from Newtown and Erskinville.

Ms Forrest opted for the more affordable Waterloo property, after she 'chocked and hung up' when she inquired about a $3.4million terrace in Surry Hills, according to Sunday Life Magazine.

The family has an extensive property catalogue, with a waterfront home in Point Piper - a harbour side suburb in eastern Sydney - worth $16.3million.

The Forests' also bought an apartment in the CBD's Quay Grande for almost $6million in 2006.

Ms Forrest is known for her roles in the 2018 blockbuster hit Aquaman and the popular 2017 Australian television series Love Child.
