Rita Wilson is reflecting on being diagnosed with COVID-19.
Taking to Instagram Sunday, Wilson shared that it has been one year since she first began experiencing symptoms after playing at the Sydney Opera House.
"One year ago today I was playing the Sydney Opera House @sydneyoperahouse, the next day started feeling very tired and achy, two days later hospitalized with Covid 19," the actress wrote alongside a photo of her and husband Tom Hanks, who was also diagnosed with COVID-19 at the time.
Wilson went on to express how "grateful" she and Hanks are for their health and "how thankful we are for the medical care we got in Queensland." "We share in the sorrow of each person who lost a loved one to this virus. I'm hopeful for so many being able to get the vaccine," she added.
She also shared how music "has been very healing this year" for her. "I also do not take for granted that creating music stayed a part of my life through @zoom remote and safe recording and writing, even with women from Brazil @claudialeitteand @therajakumari for our new song Hello World. #hellowworldmovement."
Last year, Wilson and Hanks were two of the first Hollywood stars to reveal publicly that they had tested positive for the coronavirus.
As for how she and Hanks contracted the virus, Wilson told CBS This Morning host Gayle King that they were told it was from someone they were both exposed to at the same time, but they don't know when or where that happened. None of their close family contacts or members of their work team tested positive.
Wilson revealed that she had felt "very tired, extremely achy, felt uncomfortable, didn't want to be touched." She also had a fever that reached 102 degrees by day nine and lost her sense of taste and smell. Wilson and Hanks were in isolation for 14 days in a hospital before returning to the U.S., where they continued social distancing and shelter in place.
During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Wilson also explained that she still had antibodies COVID-19 nearly nine months after being first diagnosed. The actress said she was tested "every couple of months" as part of a UCLA program. "They test us and so far we still have them," she said. "They diminish as you get farther away from your infection, but they're still there helping us out."
