Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard saw his Rangers side become champions of Scotland for the first time in ten years on Sunday. The Gers won their 55th league title after Celtic failed to beat Dundee United, and Liverpool sent the Scottish side a classy message afterwards.

Celtic's goalless draw with Dundee United on Sunday saw Rangers become Scottish champions.

It is the first time since Rangers' insolvency that they've won the Premiership title, and the title was Gerrard's first of his career.

He came close during his playing days with Liverpool, but was famously never able to get over the line.

But now, he will lift the Scottish Premiership league trophy as a manager, much to the delight of his former club.

Liverpool's official Twitter account posted a message in response to Rangers' '#Champion55' post to congratulate their former skipper.

The Reds posted: "Congratulations from all of us at #LFC to Steven Gerrard and his team on winning the Scottish Premier League title."

Rangers put themselves on the brink of becoming champions on Saturday as they dispatched of St Mirren 3-0 at Ibrox.

While fans weren't allowed to attend the game, loyal supporters still made themselves known by flooding the streets outside to show their support to the side.

And after the 3-0 win, Rangers players and staff celebrated like they knew the title was within their grasp.

Gerrard was filmed dancing and celebrating with his players during the evening after the game.

Reports had also suggested he had organised for a beer delivery for his players.

Speaking after the game, Gerrard heaped praise on his side for the way they've performed this season.

He said: ""I don't think while I'm representing this club there will ever be a bigger three points, is the reality.

"It's been an emotional day, obviously arriving here and seeing the scenes. It was an incredible feeling.

"I'm lost for words in terms of how I want to describe my team. I've been here for three years and they took me on one hell of a journey.

"It hasn't always been up and up, but I have nothing but plaudits to give my players.

"I thought they played today with maturity, with control, with style and I think we scored three incredible goals.

"We've made this place a fortress this year in terms of the league and the players are obviously on a real big high in there and rightly so.

"This club has been to hell and back over the past 10 years.

"I've only been part of it for three, but I can certainly relate and I've got that feeling and that affection with the fans and I know what they have been through."
