Norwich City defender Max Aarons has confirmed that he was the subject of a transfer offer earlier in the season, which was decided did not work out for either the club or the player.

Aarons' future has been the subject of much speculation since the start of the campaign, with Barcelona and Roma both reported to have made offers for the full-back, who has also been linked with the likes of Manchester United, Everton and Bayern Munich recently.

Now it seems as though there is at least one offer for his services that Aarons is aware of, but that the defender himself felt that it would not be the right move for those concerned.

Speaking about those transfer links after the Canaries' 3-0 win at home to Luton Town on Saturday afternoon, Aarons told The Pinkun: "As Stuart (Webber, Norwich's sporting director) says, there was an offer and we all sat down and spoke about it - which we did and decided it wasn't the best fit at that time.

"All focus was on getting the job done and playing as well as we can. I didn't want to let it become a distraction and neither did anyone from the club.

"So as soon as it was there we spoke about it and then it was done and it was straight on to getting more wins."

Indeed, it seems that despite that speculation surrounding his future, Aarons' focus remains on helping Norwich win promotion back to the Premier League this season, as he added: "This year especially, with how the team has been doing and how we've been playing, I think that's been my main goal.

"Everyone says that to a question like that but I think for me it's just about coming on the pitch and playing as well as I can, so when stuff like that happens, if there is stuff to be spoken about then for sure you can't just turn a blind eye to it.

"But once things are spoken about and everyone comes together and speaks on the subject, comes to a decision, an agreement, then it's fine and you can carry on playing.

"As soon as you put it to bed and deal with the situation then it's perfect for everyone."

The Verdict

I do think you have to give some credit to Aarons for what he has said here.

You feel there are plenty of players who would have jumped at the chance to complete a move such as the ones Aarons has been linked with this season, perhaps understandably so.

However, the fact that Aarons was happy to stay put shows the maturity he has in ensuring that any move he does make is indeed right for him, meaning when he does take an opportunity to move elsewhere, you would expect him to get the best out of it.

Indeed, given the influence and ability he possesses, this decision from Aarons and the club not to take that offer will be a big relief for Norwich, as they look to win promotion this season.
