Unable to join in the party in the Ibrox dressing room after the 3-0 win over St Mirren, Jones sent a social media message following the Black Cats' 2-0 win over Rochdale.

Retweeting images of Steven Gerrard celebrating in the Rangers dressing room as fans flocked around the Ibrox windows, Jones wrote "Enjoy every minute #55" as well as heart emojis in red and blue and a union flag.

The Northern Ireland international moved to Sunderland in January until the end of the season having played just four times for Rangers this term. He was suspended for seven games for breaching Covid rules in November.
