Lance Waldroup, who appeared in several seasons of Discovery's reality series "Moonshiners," has died at the age of 30, the network and his family confirmed this week.

A cause of death has not been released, but family members said he died Feb. 25 at his home in Robbinsville, North Carolina.

Waldroup and his father starred in the first six seasons of the long-running cable show, which follows the lives of people who brew their own moonshine and their efforts to evade law enforcement.

"An adventurous distiller who was featured alongside his father throughout the early seasons of Moonshiners, Lance was always looking to take his flavorful recipes of 'shine to new heights," Discovery said in a statement.

A family friend who launched a GoFundMe campaign on behalf of the family said Waldroup had struggled with addiction after losing both of his siblings to cystic fibrosis. His sister, Lyndsey, died when she was 11 years old and their brother, Lamar, died at 20.

"Lance suffered from extreme 'Survivor's Guilt' and he eventually turned to drugs," Joey Bailey wrote on the website. "He was an addict for several years and then decided to turn his life around. He went to rehab and had become a recovered addict."

The Graham County native left the Discovery series after his mother was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis as he "knew he had to be there for her," Bailey said.

"He did not want to leave her side and waited on her hand and foot," Bailey said.

Waldroup's father and "Moonshiners" co-star, Jeff, said he's been out of work since November and needs help paying for his son's funeral.

"It is very hard for us to even do something like this. We Love our son and just want to lay him to rest," he wrote in a Facebook post.

Besides his parents, Waldroup is survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins, according to his obituary. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday.
