Piers Morgan has revealed that he has had to beef up security at his home after being sent terrifying death threats on social media.

The broadcaster, who clashed with Alex Beresford over Prince Harry's interview, appeared on Wednesday 2 March edition of This Morning and shared his experiences of vile trolling with hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby.

Phillip read out the death threats Piers, 55, had been sent online and admitted he has had to take action against it.

He said: "I've taken action over it. Twitter is what it is, but I think there is a line.

"When people come after me, that's fine, but there's got to be a line and to have people actually make specific death threats to you and your family...

"I called the police, they were brilliant, they came around. I want to go through the process of finding out who it is and hold them accountable for issuing a death threat."

The outspoken star went on to reveal that he has been in contact with Facebook and is working closely with the police to track down the trolls.

Piers continued: "Facebook - who own Instagram - they contacted me, they agreed to speak to the police, they've been helping the police and I want to see how this process works.

"I'm doing it, not really for me or other high profile people, we can take care of ourselves to a degree and afford the security.

"My place is like Fort Knox now thanks to the police, which I'm grateful for," he divulged to Phillip and Holly.

"But what about regular people who have to put up with this obscene stuff every day?"

Piers' revelations come after his Good Morning Britain co-host Susanna Reid said she would be left in tears after being targeted by his trolls.

The mum-of-three, who was forced to hit back at criticism for showing her cleavage, explained that Piers' trolls would proceed to message her after he blocked them.

The 50 year old told The Times: "I used to get a lot of targeted abuse because someone didn't like what the person sitting next to me said.

"Ben Shepherd is much more like a warm hug, whereas Piers Morgan is like sitting next to a pincushion," she said of her two co-stars.

"We do fight like Punch and Judy, verbally. We're sparring all the time."
