Rupert Everett says he has "no guilt" over going behind Bob Geldof 's back during his six-year affair with Paula Yates.

The actor, 61, became embroiled in a passionate affair with the TV presenter during her turbulent 20-year relationship with rocker Bob.

Rupert revealed he was "in love" with Paula and simply "ignored" her commitment to Bob.

Paula, who died in 2000 from a heroin overdose aged 41, tied the knot with Bob in 1986 until their rocky union crumbled in 1996.

The pair were plagued by a slew of infidelity rumours during their marriage.

Revealing that his steamy romance with Paula took place "before and after" her relationship with Bob, Rupert appeared on Piers Morgan's Life Stories as he opened up about the past.

"We were very, very close, I must say, for a long time, and she's someone that I adored and still do. I think I was in love with her. I adored her," he told Piers.

Piers then asked: "How did you square off Bob in all this?"

Rupert told the presenter he "just ignored him" before admitting that Bob was aware of the affair the pair were having.

And when quizzed on whether he regrets the affair, Rupert was quick to say "no".

"I don't know, I think it would be for her to feel guilty, not me," he added.

Rupert first admitted to his long-running affair with Paula in a 2006 interview.

The actor - who has since come out as gay - admitted the steamy romance saw him become he "mystified by his heterosexual affairs".

"I am mystified by my heterosexual affairs, but then I am mystified by most of my relationships," he told Daily Mail at the time.

"That side of our relationship was tenuous to say the least, and our lives went in different directions," he added.

Discussing his overwhelming sexual attraction to her, he said: "She had a fragility that was erotic to men. She could break if you squeezed her too hard.

"She had a tiny waist that you could put your hands around and your fingers would nearly touch. This was her most extraordinary feature, because it gave the man she let hold her a sense of protective power; even if you were gay, you could not help but feel turned on."
