ITV has confirmed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Oprah interview will air on Monday 8 March.

The anticipated tell-all two hour interview airs on CBS in the US on Sunday.

It will be shown here in the UK by ITV on Monday between 9pm and 11pm.

It is reported the TV channel spent £1million on the rights to air the interview in the UK, following a bidding war with competitors.

ITV Managing Director Kevin Lygo said: "This interview is already a national talking point and ITV is pleased to be able to offer UK audiences the opportunity to see it."

TV legend Oprah, 67, had a sit down chat with Prince Harry and his pregnant wife Meghan, 39, "for an intimate conversation".

The first clips of the much-anticipated interview were shown earlier this week.

One of the key subject points in Oprah's interview with the couple is why they chose to leave their royal duties and move from London to California with their one year old son Archie.

In one of two brief clips of the chat published by CBS broadcast network, Meghan could be seen wearing a gorgeous black V-neck midi dress with a white pattern on the shoulder.

The former Suits actress styled her mane back into a low bun, allowing strands to fall loose and frame her face, while she accessorised with a pendant necklace and several bracelets.

Oprah could be heard asking Meghan: "Were you silent or were you silenced?" and later said at one point that her experience appeared "almost unsurvivable, sounds like there was a breaking point."

Later, Prince Harry could be heard referencing his mother Princess Diana as he said: "My biggest concern was history repeating itself."

He later added: "I'm just really relieved and happy to be sitting here talking to you with my wife by my side because I can't begin to imagine what it must have been like for her going through this process by herself all those years ago.

"Because it's been unbelievably tough for the two of us but at least we have each other."

As the interview came to a close, Oprah said: "You've said some pretty shocking things here."
