Stoke City boss, Michael O'Neill, could have his loyalties tested if Celtic come knocking for his service, sources have exclusively revealed to Football League World.
Celtic are on the lookout for Neil Lennon's permanent replacement following his departure from the club last month. A rebuild is on the horizon at Celtic Park as the Scottish title slips away from them and into the hands of Rangers.
O'Neill's name has been floated around with regard to the Celtic vacancy, despite the fact that he's only been with Stoke since November 2019.
FLW understands that whilst O'Neill is happy enough at Stoke and is enjoying his job at the bet365 Stadium, the opportunity to manage Celtic could test his loyalty to the Championship side.
The 51-year-old has doubts surrounding Stoke reaching their potential as quickly as he would like in the coming years, with frustration under the surface at the huge wages that have been spent on players that aren't at the forefront of his plans.
Currently, Stoke sit 11th in the Championship table having collected 45 points so far. That leaves them eight points adrift of the play-off picture heading into tonight's clash with automatic-promotion hopefuls, Swansea City.
Despite play-off hopes hanging in the balance, this season's performance is a major step in the right direction after fighting for survival in the previous two campaigns.
O'Neill previously excelled as Northern Ireland's manager, leading them to Euro 2016 and into contention for Euro 2020 qualification before his resignation.
