Former President Donald Trump is getting trigger happy when it comes to the 2022 Republican primaries.

As Trump seeks to cement his control over the GOP, the ex-president is reportedly itching to take sides in key races as soon as possible, according to an Axios report.

But aides had to talk him out of immediately endorsing ex-GOP state chair Jane Timken in the fractious Senate race in Ohio.

"It's way too early to make endorsement decisions in many of the races," Trump adviser Jason Miller told the news outlet. "This is much broader than any one race."

Donald Trump Jr. also argued against backing Timken in the race for the Senate seat left vacant by Sen. Rob Portman's retirement, Axios reported.

Josh Mandel, a staunch pro-Trump conservative, is also running for the seat and several other Trump-backing candidates are eyeing the race.

Ohio has been trending toward the GOP in recent years and Trump carried it by about 8% over President Biden in 2020 in one of his strongest performances.

The state's Republican Party was once home to mainstream conservatives like former Gov. John Kasich and ex-House Speaker John Boehner. But the state party has fallen hard for Trump and right-wing firebrands like Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) now hold sway.

Trump has already endorsed the primary opponent of Rep. Mike Gonzalez (R-Ohio). Gonzalez was one of just 10 Republicans in the House who voted for Trump's impeachment.

The former president is also boiling over with anger at Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), who also voted for his impeachment.
