© Provided by The Comeback The mother of former Notre Dame nose tackle Louis Nix III revealed that her son was found dead after he had been reported missing since Wednesday. On Saturday night, Jacksonville police recovered a car from a pond near Nix's house that matched Nix's license plate.
Nix was last seen on Tuesday and according to his mom and brother, he "was supposed to meet his brother at his dad's house, but he ended up leaving before his brother arrived and didn't say where he was going." While there's no evidence to suggest these two events are connected, Nix was shot a couple months ago in an attempted armed robbery as he was putting air in the tires of his car. Nix's mother told CBS 47/Fox 30 reporter Ben Becker that she didn't think him going missing was related to the robbery but Nix "didn't like going anywhere" since the robbery happened. She also felt her son was in danger as not hearing from him was "out of the normal for him."
Nix was from Jacksonville and started to play for the Fighting Irish in 2010. A starter in his sophomore year, "Irish Chocolate" recorded 45 tackles in 2011 and 50 tackles in 2012. A torn meniscus would cut Nix's senior season short but he was drafted in the third round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans. Constant knee issues sidelined Nix as he bounced from the Texans to the Giants, then to Washington, and then the Jaguars. When the Jags released him in 2017, that was it for Nix's NFL career.
