Forget scrolling through the TV channels while staying in a hotel - one luxury property has launched its very own 'Book Butler' service so bookworms can request books straight to their door!

All you need to do is choose a book from the specially curated in-room menu, dial through to the Book Butler, and you'll get a copy hand delivered straight to your hotel room door.

Complete with a custom-designed bookmark too - and you can even opt for 'Book Bites', a menu of snacks that has been designed to go with whatever you're reading!

Oh, not only is each book is complimentary, but you can take it home with you post-check out, or leave it to be donated to the West Palm Beach Library Foundation.

The Ben West Palm hotel in Palm Beach, Florida, has unveiled the brand new service in partnership with local shop The Palm Beach Book Store, and we love the concept.

The new hotel opened its doors in February 2020 but it already has plenty of literary links dating back to the 19th century, not to mention its name comes from the estate's original name Ben Trovato, an Italian phrase that loosely translates as "even if it isn't true, it's still a good story".

The in-room book menu will feature plenty of classic literature from the area including local author Byrd Dewey (1856-1942), and will be rotated seasonally, so there's ample choice for returning visitors.

The hotel itself has heaps more surprises in store for bookworms to discover including guestrooms with secret sliding bookcases, and book displays to be found in the hotel.

Bernardo Neto, General Manager of The Ben, said: "We are thrilled to introduce The Book Butler program to our guests, not only because it offers another glimpse into the rich, literary-inspired backstory of The Ben and its muse, Byrd Dewey, but also because it celebrates a fine local establishment through our new partnership with The Palm Beach Book Store.

"We understand the value in supporting independently-owned, neighbourhood businesses and giving back to our community, particularly during the current economic climate, and are pleased to be able to introduce our guests to such a revered local bookshop as part of this new program."

The hotel also hopes to invite authors to give readings and talks for its guests, as the programme evolves.

Of course a trip to the USA isn't currently on the cards for Brits due to ongoing restrictions during the pandemic. The USA has currently closed its borders to anyone who has been in the UK within 14 days of travel, not to mention it's currently illegal for Brits to travel abroad for a holiday under lockdowns across the UK.

(Still, there is a glimmer of hope for those in England as Boris Johnson announced a roadmap for easing restrictions which could see foreign travel resuming from May 17).

For now we'll have to stick to getting a wanderlust fix from brilliant travel memoirs - or even start planning for a trip to one of the UK's best literary locations as restrictions slowly ease!
