Football journalist David Ornstein has been sharing the latest transfer news concerning Manchester United and their interest in signing Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.

This comes after Ornstein recently co-hosted the latest episode of The Athletic's Ornstein & Chapman Podcast where he spoke about a number of topics concerning the Premier League and its clubs.

On the subject of United's interest in Sancho, who they were heavily linked with during the previous summer transfer window, Ornstein had this to say on the matter. (1.43)

He said: "Our latest information is that Manchester United have essentially paused their pursuits of Jaden Sancho for now.

"There's been a bit of a change in dynamic and that largely relates to the continued rise of Mason Greenwood, who's now into his second full season in the Manchester United setup. He's been rewarded with a contract extension just last week and I think that makes the need for Sancho slightly less pressing.

"Now, Greenwood can play in multiple positions and therefore, I don't think Sancho is going to be ruled out, especially if Manchester United, in this economic climate could cut a much better deal for Sancho next summer than they could last summer. He'll obviously be a year closer to the end of his contract, which expires in 2023."

Dortmund signed Sancho back in the 2017 summer transfer window from fellow Premier League side Manchester City for a fee of £7.05 million.

Since then, the 20-year-old, who is currently valued at £90 million, has made 128 appearances for the German club across all competitions in which he has managed to score 44 goals and provide 59 assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts on David Ornstein's comments on United's interest in Sancho.

Given how Sancho has managed to earn himself a decent season rating of 7.51/10 for his performances in the Bundesliga so far this season, picking up five goals and eight assists along the way, it would make sense, in our view, for United to attempt to sign the Englishman this summer, if they can get a good deal from Dortmund on him, as Ornstein mentioned in the podcast.

However, with United currently having Dan James, Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Amad Diallo in their squad that can play on the wings, perhaps cooling their interest in Sancho, as Ornstein claims, could be sensible.
