Former President Trump on Tuesday said that he had "no doubt" that golf legend Tiger Woods would recover from his car accident.

Trump made the remark during an interview on Fox News, as he reminisced about day he awarded Woods the Presidential Medal of Freedom in May 2019.

"He's a very respected person, he is so respected by the other players, they idolize him," Trump said. "He's gonna be back, I have no doubt about it, he's gonna be back."

Woods was hospitalized on Tuesday morning after sustaining multiple leg injuries due to a rollover accident in California. Authorities are still investigating the crash.

Trump said he was "really surprised" when he found out about the accident, and said it was "tragic" that it occurred after Woods recovered from a back injury.

"He won the Masters with a bad back, which tells you the level of talent, that's incredible" Trump said. "And, he's been working on that, and then he has this happen. It's just tragic."

Earlier in the day, Trump issued a statement on the accident, in which he said "get well soon, Tiger. You are a true champion."

Trump's son, Eric Trump, also offered praise for the golf legend on Tuesday.
