Burnt pans can be unsightly, with usage often leaving burnt on foodstuffs and charred surfaces. You may have scrubbed and scrubbed at your burnt on pans, left them to soak for hours and even considered throwing them away - but there are several ways to clean your burnt pans.

Before you decide to throw away your trouble cookware, try any of the three tips below.

You don't need to choose heavy-duty cleaners or harsh chemicals.

These tips are inexpensive and use items commonly found at home, meaning you won't even have to take a trip to the shops to clean your pans.

So grab your problem pans and have a go at the following tips to shift that hard to remove burn.

1. Use baking soda to clean burnt pans

If you're missing the shine from when your pans were brand new, this tip could bring your pans back to their shiniest.

You will need vinegar, a scourer and of course, baking soda.

First, fill your pan with water until the bottom is just covered.

Next, add one cup of vinegar. Pop this mixture to boil, then remove from the heat.

Add two tablespoons of baking soda and leave to work into the mixture for a few minutes until it starts to fizz.

Finally, wash the pan and use a scourer to scrub away any remaining burnt bits.

You can repeat the process for any stubborn baked on grime, just make sure you take care with the hot pan when you remove it from the heat.

2. Believe it or not, salt can clean your pans

This is perhaps one of the most inexpensive ways to clean your cookware and uses just salt and a sponge.

For any lighter burn marks around the edges of your pan or cookware follow the tips below.

First, sprinkle a generous amount of salt into the centre of your pan.

Next, use a wet sponge to rub the salt into the affected areas.

Wash your pan as normal, you can also repeat this process if you notice any light burns or staining on your pans.

3. Cola can brighten any burnt pans

While many of us don't link coca-cola to cleaning, you can actually use soda to clean your pans.

First, fill your pan with coke so the stains are covered.

Then, leave it to soak for a couple of hours.

Finally, use a scraper to get rid of the baked-on residue or burnt-on food.

Wash as normal and leave to dry. You can repeat the process or leave to soak for longer as needed.
