A Melbourne man cooking a sausage sizzle has bizarrely lashed out at a journalist who asked what he was doing outside during Victoria's strict five-day lockdown.

A Channel Seven camera crew approached the man as he made himself dinner at a public barbecue in a park on Monday.

Under the state's draconian stage-four restrictions, Victorians can only leave the house for one of four reasons - for essential shopping, work, care-giving or to exercise for two hours a day.

'You do realise there's a lockdown,' the reporter asked the man as he held out a microphone in front of him on an extendable boom arm.

'Mmm these snags are going to be good as,' the man responded before suddenly slapping the microphone on the ground.

Footage of the outburst divided opinion online, with some defending the man's reaction and asking why the reporter was out in Melbourne himself with stay-at-home orders in place.

'"You do know there is a lockdown?" asked the guy walking around shoving microphones in people's faces,' one person wrote on Reddit.

'The man is just tryna cook some snags. I wonder if they were good as,' another said.

Others though said the man was likely cooking for many more people given the number of sausages there were on the barbecue.

'With all those snags, he's obviously not alone,' the man said.

'This is why we're locked down, and looking down the barrel of an extension [of Victoria's restrictions].'

Victoria recorded two new locally-acquired coronavirus cases on Tuesday.

On Monday, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews refused to rule out whether his statewide lockdown will end on Wednesday.

'I'm not in a position to be able to confirm that but I can say that thanks to the hard work of those Victorians who are coming forward and getting tested,' he said on Monday.

'I think we are well placed. However, I've never been one to try and make bold predictions.'
