Singer Jason Isbell, who wrote one of the songs Morgan Wallen's latest album, said Wednesday he'll be donating his percentage of the royalties to the NAACP following the county's singer's use of a racial slur, which was captured on video.
Isbell announced his donation on Twitter in a retweet of an Associated Press article which stated that Wallen's "Dangerous: The Double Album" has surged in popularity following the incident.
"So... A portion of this money goes to me, since I wrote 'Cover Me Up.' I've decided to donate everything I've made so far from this album to the Nashville chapter of the @NAACP," Isbell wrote.
Wallen is facing ongoing backlash after a video surfaced last week in which he utters a racial slur.
In the footage, posted by TMZ, Wallen bids goodbye to his friends in Nashville, saying, "Take care of this ... [N-word]."
The video prompted CMT and his music label Big Loud Records to drop Wallen. He's also been barred from this year's Academy of Country Music awards.
In the article Isbell retweeted, the AP notes that interest in Wallen's sophomore LP shot up in the wake of his comments. Notably, the week of the incident, Wallen's album sales increased by 102 percent.
Wallen later apologized for his comments, telling TMZ, "I'm embarrassed and sorry. I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back. There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever."
