American publisher Larry Flynt, who launched a porn empire, has died from heart failure. He was 78-years-old.
Family sources told US publication TMZ that he passed away on Wednesday morning in Los Angeles.
Flynt has been regarded as one of the biggest names in the adult film industry for over 50 years, launching the ultimate porn empire and was behind the likes of Hustler magazine in 1974.
The fame that stemmed from his influence in the pornography sector led to his shooting in 1978 by serial killer Joseph Paul Franklin.
Franklin attempted to kill him as he left court in Georgia, and left him paralysed.
