© Provided by Washington Examiner Yahoo! News correspondent Brittany Shepherd said President Biden's press secretary Jen Psaki is a "refreshing" change of pace from former President Donald Trump's press secretary Kayleigh McEnany.
"It's been really refreshing to have briefings every day and to even know who the senior officials talking to Biden are, we were not getting that in any of the Trump years, especially in those waning days of the McEnany briefings," Shepherd said during an appearance on CNN Sunday.
Shepherd went on to liken the McEnany briefings to having "having a really bad ex-boyfriend."
"We were getting essentially abused by Kayleigh for so long, or at least she was calling us fake news and inciting her followers and followers of the president to not only harass us online but obviously go to deadly ends for some people with that threat," Shepherd said.
While Shepherd said she believed the frequent briefings are already a step in the right direction, she made clear that the bar wasn't left very high by the previous administration.
"Now, we have Jen and the entire Biden team, it's very refreshing," Shepherd said. "But it's important to remember that the bar has literally been left on the floor and just being able to show up and clear it isn't enough."
Psaki has already received praise from some in the media in comparison to McEnany for being "not crazy" and returning press briefings to what they believe is a sense of normalcy.
But others have criticized the press for lobbing softball questions at the new press secretary, especially in comparison to what were often combative press conferences during Trump's administration.
"This is the normal honeymoon that tends to happen with presidents. Unfortunately for Donald Trump, they started off in divorce court with the press, and they never let up for one day," American Conservative Union chair Matt Schlapp said of Psaki's introduction to her new role in comparison to Trump's first press secretary, Sean Spicer.
