Florence Welch has celebrated achieving seven years of sobriety and reached out to fans suffering from addiction.

The Florence and the Machine singer wrote on Instagram on 3 February: "I am seven years sober today. I send my love and support to anyone who is struggling. If you are feeling shaky around ED issues, drugs or alcohol, I completely understand."

The 34-year-old added: "The desire to disassociate is so strong. But please don't give up. We are going to need you on the other side."

Welch stopped drinking aged 27 because she was worried she was "going to die".

She has previously said that alcohol used to be a "huge part" of her identity, telling Rolling Stone in 2018: "Music and alcohol are sort of my first two loves."

In 2019, the "Dog Days Are Over" singer - who has also struggled with eating disorders - wrote a personal essay for British Vogue, in which she revealed: "I got sober when I was 27, a few months after my birthday party, where my mother made a speech - a plea, really - to my friends to try to keep me alive and out of the notorious '27 club.'"

Welch's latest music release was 2020's "Light Of Love". All funds from the song went to frontline NHS workers during the Covid-19 pandemic.
