Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis will be "influenced" more by Kate's Middleton relatives than the Royal Family, commentators have predicted. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's plans for their children's lives are said to be more in line with Carole and Michael Middleton than Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall. Royal experts spoke to Channel 5 documentary, 'When the Middletons Met the Monarchy', about what this could mean for the future.

Royal author Tom Quinn told viewers: "I suspect that everyone thinks that in terms of the children, the Royal Family will inevitably have the most influence.

"But that's entirely wrong.

"It will be the Middletons who will have the influence.

"The Royal Family is too formal, it's too stuck in its ways."

Royal commentator Ashley Pearson agreed: "I think there's going to be a modification of the royal upbringing.

"In part, just because we're living in different days.

"But also because Kate had a very sensible upper-middle-class upbringing.

"She'll want her children to experience some of that."

However, the normal life Kate and William are keen for their children to have is becoming the cause of friction between the Windsor and Middleton grandparents, according to the documentary.

Former BBC Royal Correspondent Jennie Bond told Channel 5: "I suppose there is a little tension sometimes between who gets to see the grandkids the most.

"Catherine will always turn towards Carole for help, advice, guidance."

She continued: "Also for get-togethers and romping around with the kids.

"Possibly before she'd get together with Camilla and Charles."

Mr Quinn revealed that the Prince of Wales had been "shocked and a little saddened" that William and Kate decided their country house should be in Norfolk.

This is a very long way from his own Highgrove residence in Gloucestershire.

The author claimed this left Charles "slightly out in the cold".
