Scott McTominay and his bloodthirsty Manchester United streak as Scotland star demands 10 in Southampton mauling

Manchester United put a record-equalling nine goals past Southampton in the Premier League on Tuesday night - but for bloodthirsty Scotland star Scott McTominay, that still wasn't enough.

The goals rained down at Old Trafford after Saints teenager Alex Jankewitz saw red in the opening minutes.

Title-chasing United showed no mercy and it seemed bad for Southampton at half-time when they went in four goals and a man down.

But a bad night at the office quickly became a nightmare.

McTominay was able to get in on the goalscoring act as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team netted five more goals that made Ralph Hasenhuttl the first ever Premier League manager to see his side concede nine goals on two separate occasions.

Yet the midfielder, who is set for a trip to the Euros with Scotland in the summer, wanted a tenth that would have made history.

No team in England's top flight has ever hit double figures in a league match and as Daniel James wheeled off to celebrate goal number nine, McTominay caught the eye as he demanded more from his team-mates.

In Sky Sports ' highlights of the game, he can be seen near the penalty spot, gesturing towards the ball as James heads towards the corner flag.

Another goal would have seen them smash an existing Premier League record that United have been able to lay claim to since 1995.

Their 9-0 victory over Ipswich Town last season remains the joint-biggest winning margin in English football history.

Southampton have now been on the history of a nine-goal defeat twice, having gone down to Leicester by the same margin in December 2019.
