Hector Bellerin has urged his Arsenal team-mates to stop 'losing against ourselves' after they picked up two costly red cards in the 2-1 defeat by Wolves.

The Gunners were in control at Molineux in the first half, and duly went ahead through Nicolas Pepe's superb solo goal before the game completely turned on its head in the space of seconds on the brink of half-time.

Arsenal received a double blow when David Luiz gave away a penalty and was sent off for accidentally tripping up Willian Jose in the area before Ruben Neves converted from the spot.

And minutes into the second half, Wolves made the most of their numerical advantage when Joao Moutinho struck home an emphatic long-range winner.

Arsenal's misery was compounded in the 72nd minute when Bernd Leno was then sent off for handling the ball outside the penalty area - which was the club's ninth red card since Mikel Arteta's appointment as manager in late December 2019, and Bellerin insists Arsenal must learn from their mistakes immediately.

'One hundred per cent [we've had too many red cards],' the Gunners right-back said following the final whistle.

'We've shown that when we're 11 against 11 on that pitch, it's completely different. We had complete control in the first half and we probably should have been 2-0 up by the end of it. We paid for those mistakes.

'I always say that teams are not beating us, we are losing against ourselves. It's for us to learn. Hopefully this will be the last time. We were on such a good run, great momentum, great confidence in the team.

'We just need to forget this step because situations like this are not going to happen very often. We'll go on to the next one.'

Arsenal were unbeaten since Boxing Day, having amassed 17 points from a possible 21 in the Premier League up until the trip to Wolves.

Following a dismal start to the season, Arteta's side have always been playing catch up in the race for European football and Tuesday's defeat has left them 10th in the Premier League.

Arsenal will be desperate to bounce back immediately but they face a difficult task away against an in-form Aston Villa side, with the job now being made even harder in the absence of both Luiz and Leno.
