Manchester United ran out 9-0 winners against Southampton on Tuesday, equalling the record for the biggest margin of victory in Premier League history.

Seven different United players scored, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Marcus Rashford, Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial, Scott McTominay, Bruno Fernandes and Daniel James finding the back of the net.

Southampton also saw two players sent off, with Alexandre Jankewitz shown a red card after just 82 seconds and Jan Bednarek dismissed in the 86th minute.

Despite running riot at Old Trafford, eagle-eyed United fans spotted McTominay urging his team-mates to push for a tenth goal after James scored their ninth in the third minute of added time.

As James ran to the corner to celebrate, McTominay gestured at his team-mate to come back and then pointed towards the ball as if to encourage him to get it back in play so United could try and score a tenth.

Reacting on social media, one supporter wrote: "He actually stops pointing and looks angry at the fact he goes off to celebrate Definitely one of us all in that moment!"

"Aren't we all saying the same thing" added a second.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer described his side's performance as "excellent" after the game, saying: "It is never easy to break teams down when they sit back and defend with 10 men and I thought we were excellent.

"We moved the ball really well, quickly. We used the width, we had movements in behind, we had strikers who wanted to get on the end of it scoring goals - even had full-backs wanting to be on the end of it.

"It was one of those performances you once in a while get and you enjoy. I am sure everyone enjoyed being out there in a Man United shirt.

"We've been waiting for them to show their magic and tonight was the night that they could go and enjoy. We haven't had too many of them where you can sit down in the second half and enjoy the football.

"They enjoyed it and [there were] some good performances."
