Armie Hammer has exited another project following a recent social media controversy.

The actor recently left movie Shotgun Wedding, which he was due to co-star in with Jennifer Lopez, shortly before filming was due to start.

Now Variety reports that Hammer has pulled out of Paramount Plus TV series The Offer, which depicts the behind-the-scenes story of the making of The Godfather.

The actor was due to play the lead role of producer Al Ruddy, though the series will now search for a new lead.

Digital Spy has reached out to Hammer's representatives for comment.

The news comes after unverified explicit messages that were purportedly linked to Hammer were shared around social media.

Following his exit from Shotgun Wedding, Hammer said in a statement: "I'm not responding to these bulls*** claims but in light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot in good conscience now leave my children for 4 months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic. Lionsgate is supporting me in this and I'm grateful to them for that."

A production spokesperson for Shotgun Wedding said at the time: "Given the imminent start date of Shotgun Wedding, Armie has requested to step away from the film and we support him in his decision."
