Plenty of Everton fans were in intense discussions on Twitter after journalist Patrick Boyland, writing for The Athletic, posed a conundrum to the Toffees fanbase.
The journalist offered a positive spin on the current economic and financial climate, speculating that there are unique 'opportunities' in the current market. For Director of Football Marcel Brands and Everton owner Farhad Moshiri, that means 'the same rules as before do not apply' according to Boyland's analysis.
However, an alarming statement immediately follows up this claim, with the journalist stating that 'the squad looks short of depth & money is not in ready supply'.
Boyland leaves Brands and Moshiri with a crucial question to answer in January: Stick or twist?
The idiom is essentially an ultimatum. Does the club ignore short-term and long-term issues in favour of future action, or does the club 'twist' and refuse to stay the course?
With losses mounting, players to offload and some minor injury issues, there are certainly some dilemmas at Goodison Park to be addressed.
Yannick Bolasie has been linked with a January exit, whilst Jonas Lossl could be another departure in a bid to raise funds and ease the pain of losses.
These Everton fans wasted no time in answering Boyland's ultimatum and took to Twitter to give some well-thought answers.
