The January window is now open and Celtic could well be busy when it comes to possible Parkhead arrivals.

Recent reports have suggested that Neil Lennon will be backed when it comes to new signings over the coming weeks, with an experienced centre-back and a winger top of his New Year wishlist.

One winger who has recently been linked with a Celtic Park move is Exeter City's Joel Randall. The Hoops have reportedly expressed an interest in the 21-year-old, with Championship side Swansea City also keen (Daily Record).

Several Celtic fans weren't exactly thrilled about the rumours, but we feel as if it could be a shrewd move in the long run.

Randall has scored six goals and provided four assists in 19 League Two games for the Grecians after breaking into Matt Taylor's first team plans.

Taylor has been full of praise for the versatile attacker man in recent months, labelling him as a 'constant threat' as he told Devon Live:

"He's exceeded our expectations, but I'm sure he'll keep on moving forward."

"He's had talent and potential in him since a young age. His running stats are phenomenal, but he's added an extra dimension to his game in terms of the end product."

"He's been a constant threat down that left side, he's worked tirelessly for the team and he's contributed at all times this season, he's been a standout player."

Randall's 10 league goal involvements are more than Celtic's on-loan Mohamed Elyounoussi this season. The Norwegian has netted six times and registered three assists in 17 Premiership games.

The Hoops will more than likely have to find a replacement for Elyounoussi when he returns to parent club Southampton at the end of the season.

In our view, Randall could be a brilliant long-term replacement for Elyounoussi. Celtic seem in need of a rebuild of their squad following this season's shaky league form.

Yes, they completed a quadruple treble last month, but an injection of new faces and a long-term plan appears to be needed to give the Hoops a fresh spark.

Exeter would hope to receive a fee in the region of £1.5m for Randall - the same figure for which they sold Ollie Watkins to Brentford back in 2017.

Watkins and Ethan Ampadu are just two of the latest young stars to come out of Exeter's academy, and in the long run, Randall could be the next gem from St James' Park.

With the right development and coaching, a £1.5m deal for Randall could prove to be a steal, considering he's been a 'standout player' in his first full season at senior level.
