Motherwell captain Declan Gallagher has told a fan to "shut up" on Twitter after the user claimed the Scotland international was more interested in a move away from Fir Park than sorting their form slump.

On the day Stephen Robinson resigned as Motherwell manager, 'Well fan John Brown took a pop at Gallagher in response to an exclusive interview with Lanarkshire Live Sport last night, in which the defender said the players should take responsibility for their run of nine games without a win and not the manager.

Gallagher is out of contract at Fir Park in the summer and, with less than six months remaining on his contract, he can speak to other clubs about a move away from Motherwell.

But the suggestion that he was "more interested in a move" irked the skipper and he fired back at the supporter, telling him nothing could be further from the truth. He tweeted: "Shut up eh mate not got a clue."

That sparked an exchange between the two, with Gallagher calling on fans to stick with the players instead of having a go, as the club sit 10th in the Premiership and go in search of a new manager.

He tweeted: "What and you think we aren't but how about instead of adding more pressure you stick by us through the bad and good."

Some fans also stuck up for their skipper:
