There are a lot of cool things out there that make us wonder - do they really work? In our I Tried It series, we set out to use them in the real world and have determined that, in fact, they really do.

On Trial: Great Jones Holy Sheet

The Tester: Brandon Carte, a budding baker who is willing to spend a little bit more for better-quality goods

The Brief: Great Jones' Holy Sheet not only looks good, it works well, too. The half-size sheet pan is made of tougher aluminized steel and is reinforced with steel rods, making it more resistant against warping and those annoying "pops" that happen with cheap sheet pans.

Call me clichéd if you want, but quarantine has made me a little bit of a cooking convert. I've meal prepped more than I did in past years, and yes, I jumped on the bread bandwagon, too. Since I've been spending so much time in the kitchen, I've quickly come to realize that my hand-me-down cookware just won't cut it anymore.

Previously, I had been using some absolutely terrible faux-bronze sheet pans for making sweet treats and savory sides. Anytime I bake with them, I feel like Buddy the Elf quality-assurance testing the jack-in-the-boxes because my pans are so warped that they occasionally pop after I take them out of the oven.

I recently upgraded to Great Jones' Holy Sheet half-size pan. It looks and feels much more premium than the cheap sheet pans I was using previously.

Like the company's fan-favorite Dutch oven that my colleague Jen Hussein recently reviewed, this sheet pan serves looks. Coming in a gorgeous green or cobalt blue, you can go straight from the oven to the table with this pan - after it cools down of course!

My last sheet pans were absolutely atrocious. Their bronze-color finish literally melted away from washing them, they looked rusted and were easily scratched and scuffed.

The Holy Sheet pan, on the other hand, is made from aluminized steel and has a nice nonstick ceramic coating. It's a lot heftier, too. The pan is 17 inches long, 12 inches wide, an inch tall, and weighs 2 pounds. Since it's reinforced with steel rods, the pan is super solid and never puckers from temperature changes in the oven.

I've loved using the pan for nacho night, cooking chicken, baking biscuits, making roasted veggies, and of course, baking dozens upon dozens of cookies. Its rolled edges help the pan evenly absorb heat to prevent cookies from burning, and since it's a little deeper it'll keep your veggies from rolling away. During my cooking sessions, everything browned evenly, and the nonstick coating actually worked well.

I'm confident that this sheet pan will stand the test of time. Even though it's a little heavier than what I'm used to, I've still been able to retrieve it from the oven one-handed. I like that it's easy to clean and store. Technically, the pan is dishwasher-safe, but I've only hand-washed it and avoided using it with metal utensils because I don't want to damage its nonstick coating.

The sheet pan looks as good as it did the day it was delivered. It's appealing, relatively affordable, and I can't recommend the cleverly named Holy Sheet pan enough.

Closing Argument: The Holy Sheet pan is a top-tier piece of cookware that you won't want to hide in the drawer under the oven as soon as you're done baking with it. I know looks aren't everything, but the fact that this sheet pan looks so good is what makes me come back to it again and again for my baking projects.
