Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has praised Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, stating that the German could work with any group of players in world football and make them successful.

Having first worked in the second tier with Mainz, Klopp moved to Borussia Dortmund, where he took on Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga, winning the league title twice.

He then moved to Liverpool in October 2015 and has won the Champions League and Premier League with the Reds, transforming the team from an eighth-place finish in his first season to being top of the table on Christmas Day for three successive years.

"If you look at Liverpool now with Jurgen Klopp, I think Jurgen Klopp is a manager who could go anywhere and be successful with any group of players," Carragher said on Sky Sports.

"He is such a special character. It is the same with Sir Alex Ferguson's career, he was successful everywhere he went with lots of different teams, so he didn't rely on a certain set of players to win.

"Sometimes that happens with managers, and they are in the right place at the right time. Maybe they have a special player who is out of this world or a special group. Maybe they have not been so successful at other times in their careers.

"But certain managers like Klopp, if you look at what he did at Mainz, at Dortmund, and what he is doing at Liverpool now, you could almost say that a lot of those Liverpool players were in the right place at the right time in terms of working with Klopp."

Klopp has been linked with a move to Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, among others, in the past, but has a contract at Anfield until 2024.

He has also been said to be interested in taking the German national team job one day in the future, but has also admitted he will not stay in management as long as Ferguson did.

Currently top of the Premier League table, Klopp's immediate priorities are retaining the league title and advancing past the last-16 in the Champions League.

Last season, his side were eliminated at that stage by Atletico Madrid and this season face Julian Nagelsmann's RB Leipzig in February and March.
