The best pound-for-pound fighter in the world defeated his British counterpart by unanimous decision (119-109, 119-109, 117-111) to capture the WBC and WBA super middleweight titles.
Alvarez landed 43% of his punches compared to Smith's 18% while battering his opponent in the late rounds with power shots.
The loss was Smith's first professional defeat, with his record falling to 27-1.

Alvarez, meanwhile, pushed his professional record to 54-1-2.
