It may look like an unassuming weather-beaten garage, but behind the wooden door of this quaint facade lies a sprawling and spectacular modern home - complete with stylish furnishings, views from every window and a sun-drenched deck.

Built on the banks of the River Derwent in Sandy Bay, which is just six kilometres from Tasmania's capital city of Hobart, the three-bedroom, three-bathroom home on Sandy Bay Road is fitted with enormous floor-to-ceiling windows that boast unrestricted views of the river and an open-plan coastal feel.

The house is set across two levels, and as soon as you go through the front door you are greeted with a walkway over the top of the swimming pool.

The walkway leads to an expansive and light-filled kitchen and dining area, which flows out to a sun-drenched deck that enjoys the sunshine throughout the day.

Highlights of the home include the modern kitchen and the large outdoor room that has been designed for hosting drinks or dinner overlooking the water in the summer months.

The home also features several spacious bedrooms, one of which comes with an ensuite bathroom and built-in wardrobe while the other comes with a kitchenette.

There is a hot tub in one of the outside areas overlooking the river, which provides a truly indulgent place to soak at the end of long day.

The property has won awards for its architecture, principally because it is constructed of corrugated copper cladding.

This means it requires very little maintenance all year round and is also shielded from the general street view.

Knight Frank real estate agent Abi Freeman, who oversaw the recent sale of the property, said it's special because it offers such 'unrivalled views' and a space away from the crowds.

'The property is surrounded by landscaped grounds and a triple garage enhances the amenity of the home,' she said.

The property was also named as one of the most popular homes in Tasmania for 2020 by Real Estate, alongside a historic home in Kingston and a weatherboard cottage in Tasmania.

The home on Sandy Bay Road was the seventh most popular Tasmanian property of this year, and recently sold for $2.35 million.
