4. Flokehyttene

It's all about the seascape here, south of Bergen. The cabins almost slide into the rocky terrain for just sitting and watching sunsets and storms alike through panoramic windows.

6. Laagen

In the Lågendalen valley, an hour's drive from the capital Oslo, these glass containers have a forest or river panorama, and there's a workspace for writing that novel you always meant to do.

7. Woodnest

Luxury treehouses designed to resemble a pine cone and perched on a trunk blend seamlessly with the woods overlooking Hardangerfjord, near pretty Odda. Nature and tranquillity abounds, but there's wi-fi too for sharing those social media envy posts.

8. Pan Treetop Cabins

There's a hint of Star Wars AT-AT Walker in these leggy structures in the Finnskogen forest by the Swedish border North East of Olso. No Imperial Stormtroopers to see, but there are more than 170 different species of bird at Lake Gjesåssjøen nature reserve.

9. Manshausen

On an Arctic island and an old trading post southwest of Narvik, this complex of "seacabins" overhang the water and feature a separate restaurant, library, sauna and Jacuzzi. Activities include kayaking, scuba diving, biking and hiking.

10. Arctic Hideaway

Head north of the Arctic Circle to Fleinvær, a group of small islands near the town of Bodø, to catch a ferry to stay in a mini 'hotel'. There are four sleeping units, plus separate shared bathhouse, sauna, kitchen house, studio/lounge and observatory. The islands have no cars, shops... or stress.

11. Bolder Sky Lodges
