A stabbing attack at a California church left at least two people dead Sunday night, according to police.
Authorities said they were at the scene at Grace Baptist Church in San Jose late Sunday, and that there were multiple stabbing victims. San Jose Police later announced two people had died from their injuries.
"For clarification, no church services were being conducted at the time of the stabbing," the police department wrote on Twitter. "Unhoused individuals were brought into the church to get them out of the cold."
Officials have not said how many people were injured in the incident.

There was no confirmation of an arrest as of Sunday night, police said. San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo had tweeted earlier that a suspect was arrested, but he has since deleted the post and said a statement from the police department "regarding the status of the investigation and arrest" was forthcoming.
The deaths are the 40th and 41st homicides recorded in San Jose this year, according to police.
In a tweet, the San Jose Police Department thanked its first responding officers and the members of the San Jose Fire Department "who rendered aid to victims in the middle of a chaotic scene and undoubtedly saved lives."
Police said Monday morning that streets near the church were closed as the homicide investigation continued.
