Young people are finding their doppelgänger soulmates on TikTok.

Social media is a great place to find uncanny celebrity lookalikes, but a new trend has young people going a step further, doubling up on their twinning status.

TikTok users are showing off how closely they resemble a celebrity or on-screen character - and are then finding their romantic counterparts, pairing up with another TikTok user who looks just like their character's on-screen love interest.

It's unclear who originated the trend, but it's been growing on TikTok since at least late September. 

Users who look like a famous person, TV or movie character, or even a cartoon post short videos of themselves lip-syncing to the song Sofia by Clairo as they pose in front of an image of their lookalike - and the lookalike's love interest.

Then, if they're lucky, someone who looks like the love interest will post a duet.

So far, it's resulted in quite a few impressive pair-ups, including Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott.

Vanesa Cuevas, 19, looks quite a lot like the Kylie Cosmetics founder, while Marvin Appiah Korang is a dead ringer for her ex.

Running in the same circles are Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik, who also have a doppelgänger couple on TikTok.

Sammy Robinson looks a bit like the supermodel, while TikTokker @smurfgopoppop looks enough like the One Directioner that his TikTok bio says 'not Zayn.'

Meanwhile, Trinnity Miller and TikTok star Gideon McManus both bear a striking resemblance to Danielle Fishel and Ben Savage - a.k.a. Topanga Lawrence and Cory Matthews.

But it's not just real-life human beings that TikTok users are copy-catting - some look a whole lot like animated characters from Disney and Pixar, too.

Max Imovic and Agos Culotta took a turn as Linguini and Colette from Ratatouille, and instantly became a favorite among other app users.

Their video already has 27.8 million views. 

And Christian Reyes and @arxcelix have earned fans for posing as Prince Naveen and Tiana from the Princess and the Frog.

Finally, Ellie Feildhouse and @spaceboyriley posed as Johnny and Mavis from Hotel Transylvania 2.
