According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the NFL ruled both players as "high-risk close contacts" to running back A.J. Dillon, who tested positive for COVID-19. The ruling is based on information from contact tracing. Due to the designation, both Williams and Martin must now isolate and be away from the team for at least five days. SMG

GREEN BAY - As expected after their addition to the Green Bay Packers' injury report late Monday for being in close contact to running back AJ Dillon (who was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list), running back Jamaal Williams and linebacker Kamal Martin will miss Thursday's game at San Francisco.

Per NFL COVID-19 protocols, those deemed in "close contact" with a player who tests positive must be held out of the facility and practices for at least five days since they were last in close contact with an individual who tested positive.

As of Tuesday morning, starting running back Aaron Jones' status for the game remained in doubt due to a calf strain suffered Oct. 22 before the team traveled to Houston. Second-year running back Dexter Williams is the only healthy full-time running back on the roster, as Tyler Ervin plays and practices as a wide receiver.

Dexter Williams, who is on the practice squad, played against the Texans. He did not appear on offense and missed a block on special teams that led to a blocked punt.

Ervin has four rushes for 43 yards but has been nursing a wrist injury for several weeks. He returned to action against Minnesota and caught one pass on three targets for seven yards.

Martin has been a starter at inside linebacker since coming off injured reserve for the game in Houston. Unlike at running back, the Packers have options to replace Martin.

The club can activate season-opening starter Christian Kirksey (pectoral) off IR before they leave for California, though they would have to make a corresponding roster to move to accommodate him. The team also has Krys Barnes, Ty Summers and the recently acquired James Burgess on the active roster while De'Jon Harris is on the practice squad.
