Jon Brown transitioned to football after playing soccer at Kentucky, when he transferred to Louisville and joined its football squad. He went undrafted in 2016 and spent time with the Cincinnait Bengals and San Francisco 49ers as a kickoff specialist. The Jaguars have been searching for a short-term kicking option while starter Josh Lambo recovers from a hip injury sustained in Week 2. The team elevated Brandon Wright from the practice squad to take over for Lambo, but he suffered a groin injury in Week 3.
Jacksonville also tried out Stephen Hauschka and Aldrick Rosas at kicker in Weeks 4 and 5 before handing kicking duties over to Brown.
Brown missed a 32-yard field goal in the second quarter, hitting the right upright.
