Everything about this home is special - its seaside location, the town centre is on your doorstep and then there's the interior design. It's a total one-off.

It's not the whole building, or even half the building, it's the upper floor central section.

The studio apartment is tucked away on the first floor, it's just a thin central sliver of this much larger building.

The home has its own colourful spiral staircase to the front door and even a cute private balcony - it's brilliant.

What other flat in Wales can boast this combination of features that ensures anyone passing the abode will surely stop and stare at the unique kerbside view?

That's if there are any people strolling past this cute home.

Although it is a section of one of the main buildings on one of the main streets of the seaside town, the flat's entrance and enticing facade is around the back.

So although the home is located conveniently and literally next to the main shops, it is tucked away facing out onto a quiet adjacent street, with a row of terrace houses opposite.

That's one unique location this property offers and the other is that the flat is only about 500 metres from one of the sandy beaches of the popular seaside town, Porthcawl.

Just cut through a car park, cross the road, over some grassland and the soft sands of Coney Beach, Sandy Bay will greet you.

There's an amusement park and numerous take-away units at this beach that might tempt some people off the sand. But for those spending the day in a deck chair, the beach can boast nearly a mile of sea shore to accommodate all surfers, swimmers and paddlers.

Back at the flat, walk down the spiral staircase and and the seafront promenade is a mere 200 metres away.

This promenade is always a magnet for local residents and visitors to wander along, enjoying the coastal views and probably an ice cream along the way.

And if you do move to the cute flat, sea scenes like these could be just down the road:

Further afield, just a mile or so along the coast, is the Blue Flag awarded Rest Bay.

This beach is popular with surfers and families, the sands stretch to the horizon when the tide is out, revealing a plethora of rock pools to investigate.

But inside the property has some attractions too.

Being compact in size, it's not a surprise to see that the whole property has been painted white to make it feel as airy and spacious as possible - but it definitely isn't boring.

The space available has been well-designed and zoned into sleeping, eating, lounging and bathing.

The estate agent selling the property describes the home as a studio apartment as there is no closing door between the living and sleeping quarters.

However there is a dividing wall that has an open archway between the two spaces and this is a clever design choice.

Having two completely separate rooms with a closing door would make both spaces feel smaller.

Having a dividing wall to create privacy but putting an archway instead of a door in it means light is shared between the two spaces.

In addition, glimpsing the space beyond from each room also helps the space look bigger.

Both rooms have a roof window that creates pools of light within the space and the use of white gloss kitchen units and cream splashback tiles assists in blending the kitchen into the walls as well as reflecting light around the open-plan living area.

The current owner has splashed colour about, especially blue and yellow as accent tones, to give the home a bright and modern look as well as a homage to its seaside location.

The use of the same, light flooring is another successful visual trick to make the home look bigger.

Flowing into every space, the continuous flooring ensures visual continuity and avoids chopping the areas up and making them look smaller, which is a danger if flooring is different and distinctive in every zone.

Ceiling spotlights, the balcony window and the quirky triangular window in the front door all assist in lighting the lounge area, which comfortably seats three but could seat even more with the addition of a further armchair or snuggle seat.

The bedroom continues the bright, seaside inspired interior design and easily accommodates a double bed, and there are built-in wardrobes and a sink unit too.

But where is the rest of the bathroom?

Open one of the wardrobe doors and there's a toilet and shower hiding inside.

Quirky ensuite? Yes, but surely that's to be expected in this most unusual of properties.

Luckily trousers, dresses and skirts don't have to compete with the facilities within this bedroom's ensuite, there is another set of double doors opposite the shower room and these do indeed open into a standard wardrobe.

Think the cute abode has a lack of storage?

Again the bedroom provides the answer with yet another set of doors hiding a storage cupboard.

The design of this small but perfectly formed flat has made use of every inch of space with some clever design tricks and adding colour to ensure the inside lives up to expectations raised by the quirky front of the property.

So when an owner returns home from the beach they are assured the sunniest of welcomes within this cutest of seaside spaces.

The apartment is on the market for offers over £100,000 with estate agent Peter Alan, call their Porthcawl branch on 01656 771600 to find out more.
