Bayern Munich midfielder Thaigo Alcantara is poised to join Premier League champions Liverpool.

Widespread reports have suggested that Jurgen Klopp's side have agreed a reported £25m deal for the Spanish international.

The 29-year-old has one year left on his Bayern contract and talks have taken place between the Anfield and Allianz Arena clubs over a move to England.

The midfielder joined Bayern from Barcelona in 2013, having been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United that summer when David Moyes replaced the retired Sir Alex Ferguson in the Old Trafford dugout.

However, that move did not come to pass.

And before then, nor did a move to Bolton Wanderers materialise.

In 2011, the midfielder was a reported target for then-Bolton boss Owen Coyle when the Trotters were still a Premier League club.

Back then, Thiago had only made a handful of first team appearances for the Catalan giants.

But it was reported back in 2011 that Coyle was planning a swoop to sign the then-Barcelona man and was backed by then-owner Eddie Davies to put a package together.

It was reported at the time that a crucial factor in the offer would be a buy-back clause, which would have given the Catalan side the option of taking the then-20-year-old back to Spain in years to come.

The chase progressed and then-Wanderers chairman Phil Gartside even flew out to Spain for talks with the Camp Nou side.

Alcantara had been available for around a reported £5m, but the move fell apart when the midfielder himself turned down both a permanent move and a season-long loan to the Trotters.

The midfielder then joined the Bavarian club two years later, and has since won seven Bundesliga titles, four German Cups, and the Champions League.
