Liverpool are closing in on a move for Bayern Munich star Thiago Alcantara.
The world-class midfielder has been linked with a switch to Anfield for months but the Reds finally opened talks with the Bundesliga giants over a £27 million deal this week.
Ahead of the clash with Liverpool in the last 16 of the Champions League during the 2018/19 campaign, Thiago praised on Jurgen Klopp's men before the Bundesliga outfit suffered a 3-1 aggregate defeat.
"We know perfectly, this team. What they are, what they have," he said prior to the first leg.
"They play awesome football these past years, and they increase every year. They are fighting in the Premier League now with the same points as [Manchester] City.
"In the Champions League they do it, not so great in performances (Liverpool struggled in the group stage), but they are great.
"Yeah we are looking forward because we expect a great match, not just against a great team but also a great crowd."
Meanwhile, the 29-year-old spoke again about the Reds when being interviewed by Spanish journalist Sid Lowe, when he was on international duty with Spain, and the two were discussing the differences between Spanish and English football.
Thiago said Liverpool's midfield "pressed like animals" and specifically named Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as players who "ate up the midfield".
Lowe told the ECHO : "Very interesting, actually, when I interviewed him we were talking about styles and the way that teams play, and we were actually talking about England - but he was the one who brought it onto Liverpool.
"He was saying England were a very good team, that they've adapted now and they've got a lot of young players who are quite exciting.
"We were mostly talking about the speed of the forward line and the quality of the forward line. I said, 'Is their midfield a bit limited in terms of the touch, the technique, the vision, the skill and the quality?', which is what he was talking about.
"He was effectively giving a manifesto of Spain's style, even though that's a style that's evolved. He said, 'Well, not really, because you look at that Liverpool midfield and they just eat the midfield up. They're extraordinary'.
"He was really, really full of praise about that midfield."
