Man charged with homicide after bicyclist killed in collision in Bell Acres

A man was arrested Saturday after killing a bicyclist in a hit-and-run crash in Bell Acres, according to police.

Authorities said the driver, identified as 33-year old Justin Michael Miller, is facing several charges including homicide by vehicle while DUI and possession of heroin.

Franklin Park Police received a call at 12:14 p.m. for an erratic driver on Nicholson Road. The vehicle was then reported driving west on State Route 910 toward Big Sewickley Creek Road.

County 911 was notified at 12:26 p.m. of a green Ford pick-up truck striking a bicyclist head-on in the 700 block of Big Sewickley Creek Road. Medics arrived and found the 51-year-old male victim severely injured. He was flown by medical helicopter to a trauma unit but died in the hospital. He was pronounced dead at 1:48 p.m.

The victim has not been publicly identified.

Police said Miller was driving into opposing traffic when he hit the bicyclist head-on.

A Leet Township police officer saw Miller driving along Ambridge Road at 12:29 p.m. and pulled him over near Boyle Road.

Miller was arrested and will be charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, fleeing and eluding and driving under suspension.

County police are investigating and asked anyone with information on this incident to call the tip line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS (1-833-255-8477). Callers can remain anonymous.
