Flight Centre has announced that 3800 of its support and sales staff around Australia will be stood down temporarily as the travel industry continues to be wrecked by the coronavirus.

The company said that with travel restrictions and social distancing guidelines now in place, staffing levels were unsustainable.

In total, 6000 of Flight Centre's workforce will be stood down around the world, with some to be made redundant.

The company announced on Monday it had cancelled its interim dividend and senior executives and board members would take a 50 per cent pay cut.
