The family, who had taken five-year-old Amelie to Singapore so she could swim with dolphins, didn't have travel insurance.
"Those bills were just by the minute racking up and up, we were thinking we are going to go bankrupt, I was just praying we weren't going to lose this house," Duncan's wife Michelle told 9NEWS. © Provided by Nine Digital Pty LtdMr Turner, who is terminally ill, fell and hurt his leg.
However, friends, family and total strangers banded together to raise more than $30,000 to bring Mr Turner home.
"Overwhelmed, I keep saying that, but I don't know what other word to use, because I thought we might get $1000," Mrs Turner said. © Provided by Nine Digital Pty LtdStrangers banded together to bring Mr Turner home.
The family said it will donate the rest of the money to charity once it finishes paying for their expenses.
"Looking forward to thanking everyone," Mr Turner said.
