Two British footballers have been arrested in Ibiza on suspicion of a sex assault on a teenager who was holidaying on the island with her parents.
The men were held yesterday at a hotel in Cala de Bou, just outside the party resort of San Antonio.
Spanish police were called by the parents of the 19-year-old woman, who is also British, according to local reports.
The players are said to have been on holiday in Ibiza with teammates following the end of the season. Their club has not been named but Spanish media described the two men as "second division players", which is believed to mean the Championship.
The reports say a group of players had invited the alleged victim and another woman back to their hotel after meeting them on a night out in San Antonio.
Detectives are said to be investigating claims that two footballers sexually assaulted one of the women while a third, who has not been arrested, recorded the incident on a mobile phone.
The two men were taken to a police station yesterday so they could be questioned and give statements before an expected closed court hearing in front of an investigating magistrate.
Their whereabouts today was unclear. A local paper reported that police were looking for the third man but that he had not been located.
No one from the Spanish National Police, the force which made the arrests, was immediately available for comment.
The hotel where the arrests took place has not been named.
Cala de Bou is a popular location for tourists looking to stay somewhere quieter than San Antonio but within easy reach of the party resort.
It is seven miles from the airport and is home to a number of hotels and short-stay holiday apartments. © Provided by Independent Print Limited © Provided by Independent Print Limited
