"Blowtorch" heat will hit Liverpool tomorrow as the city is set to be hotter than BARCELONA.

Forecasters are predicting warm air will move across Southern Europe this week thanks to a 1,500 mile wide 'African air plume' from North Africa.

And a new weather map from WX Charts forecasts exactly when and where the warm weather will hit Merseyside, with the mercury expected to hit 21 degrees C.

Some forecasters have described the rise in temperature as a "blowtorch" engulfing Europe and the UK from the south.

On the Met Office website forecasters said: "Wednesday will start cloudy with rain and drizzle over the hills.

"However, skies will brighten from the south with plenty of warm sunshine through the afternoon and evening.

"It will be breezy and maximum temperatures of 21 °C."

Liverpool set for hottest WEEK of the year so far

Across other parts of the UK The Met Office has predicted highs of 25 degrees C.

The change in weather will be a break from some rather cloudy conditions yesterday and today.

Today is expected to remain overcast and there will be outbreaks of rain, which will be heaviest through the morning and over the hills.

The Met Office said there may be some brighter spells later, however there will be winds and maximum temperatures of 14 degrees C.

However after today the outlook for the rest of the week looks hopeful, with warm sunshine and light winds.

Thursday will be another warm day at 17 degrees C, getting a little cooler on Friday at 13 degrees C, but gradually building up again over the weekend to between 15 degrees C and 17 degrees C.

Alex Deakin meteorologist from the Met Office said: "There is plenty of fine warm weather to come but Tuesday morning is a bit of a soggy one- wet and blustery especially in many western areas.

"Parts of eastern England do still have some sunshine but for many it is a blustery start, especially in Scotland with heavy rain.

"The rain will push across to north west England.

East Anglia and in the south east will have the sunniest weather throughout the today.

"Clouds will continue to thicken across north west England and there will be a bit of drizzly rain.

"Temperatures are into the teens in most places, feeling a bit cooler under the cloud and rain but warmer air is coming from the south.

"Moving in to Tuesday evening the cloud and rain will continue over north west England and parts of Wales.

"The cloud and rain will begin to fizzle out overnight, however there will still be around in some form on Wednesday a dull damp start.

"Rain will work across Ireland and Scotland but elsewhere dry and plenty of sunshine developing.

"Temperatures getting into the high teens and even low 20s with 21C and 22C possible.

"Cooler where we have the cloudier skies in the north.

"But high pressure will build allowing southerly winds to waft up warmer air, so Thursday will see a peak in temperatures - 24C, 25C in the south east and even high teens in the north.

"But for many of us signs of spring with some higher temperatures and plenty of blue sky, this week."
